Championship Details

Welcome to the fastest, most exciting adrenalin fueled student sport in the country!

The British Universities Karting Championship 2010 is open to any full time student studying at an accredited university in the UK.

The championship in 2010 consists of 9 national rounds spread over 5 race days in Feb, March and April 2010.

In addition 3 separate test days are laid on for drivers to familiarise themselves with the power and the handling of the karts.

The BUKC is strictly a team based sport for teams of 4 drivers exactly.

Full Rules & Regulations: (HTML) (MS DOC)

The Karts

The BUKC uses the most powerful arrive-and-drive kart fleet in the world.

The fleet is operated and maintained by Club100. Club100 are the pioneers in high performance arrive-and-drive kart racing. They have been in operation since 1993

These 115cc 2-stroke TKM-Extreme engined Birel-chassis karts are capable of accelerating from 5 to 60mph in 4.5s and can achieve top speeds of 70mph.

Racing in the BUKC is nothing like indoor or outdoor karting on 4-stroke Honda-engined karts. The Club100 karts are in an entirely different league of performance.

The Test Days

To ensure that every driver is familiar with the performance of the Club100 karts, all drivers must attend at least one of 4 test days or have raced in the BUKC in previous years to be elegible to race in the championship.

3T Racing keep a database of every driver to check if they have attended a test day. Any driver not on this database will not be allowed to race in the championship.

The test days provide your team with the perfect opportunity to get to grips with the Club100 karts. Each team is allocated a kart for 4 hours of uninterrupted track time. The test days are also the place to practise fuel stops and team work.

Teams may consist of up to 5 drivers for a test day

The price of a 4 hour test day is £290 inc VAT (after new vat rate) payable on the day.

The four test days are scheduled for:

  • Sun 8th Nov 2009 at Whilton Mill (arrival at 12noon)
  • Wed 11th Nov 2009 at Rye House (arrival at 10am)
  • Sat 6th Feb 2010 at Whilton Mill (arrival at 8am)
  • Sun 7th Feb 2010 at Whilton Mill (arrival at 8am)

The National Championship

The 9 round championship takes place over 5 days between February and the middle of April 2010

The first 4 days will consist of 2 rounds. One in the morning and one in the afternoon

The final (5th) day will consist of one round only in the morning – the final of the championship. The afternoon of the last race day will host the BUKC Drivers Championship.

Each team must consist of 4 drivers exactly for each round. No more no more less. Exceptions to this rule are detailed in the Rules and Regs. The team does not have to consist of the same drivers for each round.

The price of entry is £225 inc VAT per round (after new VAT rate) if paying on a round by round basis. Your team can save 10% by paying for all 9 rounds of the championship up front (£204.44 per round). Payments must be made before 1st December 2009.

  • Double Race Day 1: Whilton Mill – Tue 9th Feb 2010
  • Double Race Day 2: Rye House – Wed 3rd Mar 2010
  • Double Race Day 3: Teesside Autodrome – Wed 10th Mar 2010
  • Double Race Day 4: Buckmore Park – Wed 31st Mar 2010

The Formats

2 different formats are used in the BUKC:

The Solo Format and The 2-Man Relay Format

The Solo Format

The Solo Format is where every driver in the team gets to race in their own individual 25minute race. No fuel stops, no driver changes. Just a 25 minute sprint to the flag.

The teams finishing score for the round is determined by adding up the best 3 results from the 4 solo races.

The 2-Man Relay Format

The 2-Man Relay Format is where the team (of 4 drivers) is split into 2 teams of 2. Each mini-team of 2 drivers races in a one-hour race.

2 fuel stops must be made, and at least one driver change must be made.

The teams finishing score for the round is determined by adding up the points from both the 2 one-hour races
